I didn’t name my business after a buzzword or branding trend. I named it after a character I created. And not just any character – a fire-hearted, red-haired sorceress from a Dungeons & Dragons campaign who eventually became the main character in the fantasy novel I’m writing.
That’s how real storytelling is to me.
What Is Brand Storytelling, Really?
Let’s get something clear: storytelling in marketing isn’t about fluff or filler. It’s about making your brand feel human, genuine, relatable, and real. It’s the why behind what you do, not just the what. It brings clarity to your purpose and shows people that there’s more to your business than a product or a service. Storytelling gives you a voice, not just a tagline.
Storytelling Builds Emotional Connection
People don’t remember mission statements. They remember moments. Characters. Struggles. They remember stories. The kind that makes you pause, nod your head, and say, “That sounds like me.” I’m not just sharing trivia when I tell clients the origin of Solyndria Creative.
I’m offering a piece of my journey – one rooted in creativity, curiosity, and resilience. That moment of recognition, when someone says, “I feel that,” is the bridge between brand and audience. And that’s what you want your brand to do: forge a real connection by being unapologetically human.

Why Character Matters
Solyndria started with a spark: a character born from imagination, resilience, and passion. She wasn’t just a product of a game session – she was a lens through which I saw possibility, leadership, and strength. I played her for years before I realized that the same traits I gave her were the ones I needed in my real life.
That story evolved into more than character notes – it became the blueprint for a business model rooted in creativity, clarity, and meaningful connection. Solyndria Creative is what happens when a fantasy world collides with real-world purpose. You can read more about my personal journey here or dive into what I offer here.
Stories = Strategy
Good stories don’t just entertain—they convert. They help people see themselves in your brand, your mission, and your solution. They answer the question, “Is this for me?” without needing to shout it. This isn’t woo-woo stuff; it’s backed by data. According to Harvard Business Review, storytelling activates more areas of the brain than plain facts ever could. That means stories don’t just inform – they move people to action, emotionally and neurologically.
Every Business Has a Story—You Just Need to Find It
Not sure where to start? Ask yourself:
- Why did I start this?
- Who am I helping?
- What problems have I overcome?
- What moment made me say, “This is it?”
- What values have stayed the same since day one?
- What unexpected plot twist shaped the direction of your work?
Make It Personal
You don’t need dragons and dice to tell a great story (though hey, it worked for me). You just need honesty. Vulnerability. Humanity. It’s not about being polished; it’s about being real. The best stories feel like conversations – the kind that make people lean in and say, “Tell me more.”
Where Storytelling Lives in Your Business
- Your About page (where people go to feel who you are)
- Your welcome email (set the tone from the very first touchpoint)
- Your client onboarding process (this is where your values meet your voice)
- Your content, especially blog posts like this one (where ongoing storytelling builds trust and identity)
- Your case studies, captions, testimonials, and even your proposals (yes, stories belong in those too)
How I Use Storytelling for Clients
As a creative partner, I help brands unearth the stories they didn’t even realize they had. It’s part strategy, part soul work, and part detective work. We look at the seemingly small details – why they chose their name, what sparked their first sale, how their voice evolved – and piece it all together into something that’s not only marketable but meaningful. You can check out my portfolio for a few examples of how story and structure come together to create something unforgettable.
And Yes, Storytelling Helps SEO
When readers stay longer on your page because your story pulls them in? That helps your rankings. When people link to your content because it resonates? That builds authority.

So yes, storytelling for SEO is absolutely a thing. And a powerful one.
My Character, My Compass
Solyndria – the character – inspired more than a business name. She’s a reminder of what drives me: courage, creativity, and unapologetic authenticity. That’s the energy I bring into every project.
So What’s Your Origin Story?
If your brand was a character, what would her backstory be? What journey is she on? What dragons has she slayed?
